Greening in the Rainshadow

Rooted in the Rainshadow: How We Reduce Our Environmental Impact and Invest in Our Community

At Rainshadow Provisions, we believe that how we make things matters just as much as what we make. From day one, our mission has been to create exceptional, whole-food products while reducing our environmental footprint and supporting the people and place we call home.

Whether it’s a Columbia Bar packed with Oregon-grown blueberries or a jar of Raven’s Rose black garlic, our products are designed with intention — not just for flavor, but for sustainability, seasonality, and regional stewardship.

Sourcing with Purpose

We prioritize ingredients that reflect the richness of our region and reduce the environmental toll of long-distance supply chains. That includes:

  • Oregon-grown organic wildflower honey, sourced from beekeepers helping to protect pollinator habitats

  • Blueberries and cranberries from Oregon farms that focus on sustainable and organic practices

  • Citrus sourced regionally and dehydrated in-house — while it’s not grown locally, we work with trusted local distributors to keep as much of the supply chain grounded in the Pacific Northwest as possible

Processing ingredients like citrus ourselves allows us to cut down on waste, maintain quality, and reduce excess packaging — all part of our commitment to thoughtful, small-batch production.

Designed for Low Impact

We take a practical approach to sustainability:

  • We use whole-food ingredients — no fillers, no shortcuts — which keeps production cleaner and less resource-intensive

  • We dehydrate and process ingredients in-house, reducing spoilage and packaging waste

  • We're actively exploring packaging options that balance food safety and environmental responsibility

These steps may seem small, but they add up to a more sustainable system that we can be proud to grow over time.

Investing in Our Community

As a small business based in Astoria, Oregon, our roots are here — and we’re committed to growing in a way that supports the people around us.

  • We plan to hire from within our local community as we grow

  • We’ve made multiple product donations to local organizations, including Filling Empty Bellies, which provides direct aid to people experiencing homelessness

  • We give back through volunteer work — including serving as a community member with the Astoria Downtown Historic District Association

This isn’t a tagline — it’s our everyday practice. With care, and with our neighbors in mind.

Looking Ahead

Sustainability and local investment aren’t destinations — they’re ongoing commitments. As Rainshadow Provisions expands, and as Columbia Bar and Raven’s Rose continue to evolve, we’ll keep working to deepen our connection to this region and the community that supports us.
